Russian antitrust head assumes Google getting ready for truce
MOSCOW, Jun 8 (PRIME) -- Google might be getting ready for an amicable agreement with Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service, which has found the U.S. giant guilty of abusing its position on the market of pre-installed application stores, the authority’s Director Igor Artemyev told reporters Wednesday.
“They have asked for more time to prepare better. Frankly speaking, I think they could have wanted more time to reconcile with us. I do not know that for sure, but I think that might be the case,” Artemyev said.
The antitrust service has delayed a date of hearings to set the fine for Google several times, but the latter asked for more time. The final date is still unknown.
In April, Artemyev said that the fine would be much lower than the one threatening Google in Europe.
In 2015, the European Commission opened an antitrust investigation against Google, which can face a fine exceeding U.S. $6 billion.
